In this academic year ENCON club in Alphonsa College, Pala, organized a Nature camp in the Chinnar dry tropical forest in association with the nature club of the college. The members came into contact with the local flora and fauna and this gave awareness about the biodiversity in these forests.
We had a cleanliness awareness programme where students actively did physical cleaning of the campus. The wastes were disposed into pits which were dug up for this purpose.
A tree planting programme which included the distribution of seedlings to the students and they were advised to plant it at home.
They were asked to check the electric meter monthly to make sure of low usage of electric energy.
Water quality in different parts of the Meenachil river in the Pala municipality area was assessed with the help of P.G degree Zoology students. The oxygen content was found to be poor due to the algal growth. The microbial population was also found to be above limit.
A two-day Seminar was held to study new trends in energy conservation and methods to promote it. Resource persons from KRL, Kochi, took classes which gave valuable informations about the wakeful utilization of electric energy.
A brain storming session to bring out new ideas on improvement in energy conservation methods was successfully held.
ENCON had a meeting of the club every month to plan future programmes.
All in all we had a busy and fruitful year.
