An ‘Encon Club Student Leaders Meet’ was organized exclusively for the student leaders of School Encon Clubs on 26th of November 2014, at BPCL KR City Office at Kundannoor from 09:30am to 04:00 pm. The function commenced with the invocation prayer by Ms Devika A V and Neenu Anil of CR School. Ms Reshma Jolly of Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad briefed about the relevance of encon clubs in the present context. This was followed by a song by Andhra Lakshmi and Aiswarya Murali of Govt. High School, Chottanikara. Thereafter, Ms Athulya Prakash of Govt. High School, Thiruvamkulam described about the importance of agriculture and the various benefits we derive out of it. This was followed by a song by Ms Gayathri Sahajan of Govt. High School, Poothrikka. Then Ms Raichal Elsa of Christu Jayanthi Public School briefed the participants about the need of an inquisive mind to solve our environmental issues.
Energy plays a central role in our lives, as not a day passes without energy being generated, utilised, conserved or transformed. Hence what we have to think is that what little we can do instead of concentrating on what others are not doing and thus we have to become the change we want to be, remarked Mr. S. Somasekhar, GM (I/C) who interacted with the participants. Mr. Chacko M Jose, CM (E &E), expressed his pleasure in the good conduct of Encon Clubs and requested all the members to take the lead in spearheading various activities in their schools and communities to build awareness about energy conservation and environment protection.
In an invitation lecture, Dr. N.C.Induchoodan, IFS, Executive Director of Attapady Hill Area Development Society gave us an insight about our present environmental issues. He reminded that a tree is a wonderful living organism which gives food, shelter, warmth and protection to all living things.
In another invitation lecture that followed, Sri. A. Santhosh, well known energy consultant led an interesting session on home energy auditing for improved energy efficiency. He detailed the participants about biogas plants, solar water heaters, energy auditing methods etc. and the need to tap solar energy effectively.
Students also debated on the topic ‘Global warming and climate change-a human imagination’. This was followed by an extempore speech on the topic:”Today’s wastage-Tomorrows shortage”. Later the students participated in the singers round in which they came up with good environmental songs.
The programme helped to infuse enthusiasm and encouragement among the members-the young minds of today who will wear the mantle of tomorrow to act as change agents. It also provided the student leaders of School Encon Clubs, a platform to share their knowledge and experience on the latest issues in the field of energy conservation and environment protection.
